WHITTIER, Los Angeles County — November 2026. Whittier Measure EL has a strong Yes majority in the unofficial vote. The ABC7 local results tracker lists 17,080 Yes votes (76.48%) and 5,254 No votes (23.52%).
A proposed limit on years of city elected service
The charter amendment would bar a person from running for mayor or city council if that election would cause them to exceed 12 years of combined service in those elected positions. The official ballot question contains exceptions for certain terms won or appointed on or before November 3, 2026. These details matter when discussing future candidate eligibility and should not be reduced to a simple three-term rule for every office.
Separate from the election-calendar proposal
Measure EL addresses term limits. Measure EV is a distinct Whittier proposal about the timing of municipal elections. Their votes should not be combined, and neither proposal alone determines who won the city council election on November 3.
The latest published figures are preliminary. Los Angeles County continues counting legally valid ballots and must certify the result before adoption can be treated as final.
